The Evolve Sustainability youth exchange program in Tsaghkadzor, Armenia was a wonderful experience that brought together individuals from different backgrounds to explore environmental issues together using cultural exchange and artistic expression as a tool.
The program started with interactive activities “Speed Dating” and “Human Bingo” in order to get to know each other and to create a welcoming atmosphere. Participants also shared their expectations, fears, and the unique contributions planned to bring to the table.
Continuing the program the participants focused more on environmental concerns in different countries, highlighting issues such as noise pollution in India and food waste in the UK. At the intercultural night, participants enjoyed different foods and activities from everyone’s countries, which helped them to see how diverse the world is and made them appreciate each other’s cultures more.
A day excursion to Yerevan provided a glimpse into Armenia’s rich culture and heritage. From exploring traditional flea market Vernissage to visiting TUMO Studios where art sculptures were crafted by talented students, demonstrating the fusion of education and artistic expression and ascending the Cascade of Yerevan for panoramic views of Mount Ararat and the entire city of Yerevan, the trip showed Armenia’s vibrant traditions, artistic talents and also historical and geographical significance.
On the next day participants engaged in hands-on activities like papier-mâché, wire art, and installations using recycled materials, such as papers, cans, bottles, earrings, wire, turntable records, porex etc, fostering creativity and environmental consciousness. The day culminated in a relaxing art therapy session, promoting holistic well-being.
The teams of participants collaborated on collective art pieces using sustainable materials, reflecting the program’s purpose of creative sustainability. The art exhibition showcased to the local community diverse perspectives on environmental and personal themes.
The program concluded with a reflective session where participants shared their impressions, experiences, and newfound knowledge. A trip to Garni Geghard and the Symphony of Stones provided a fitting end to the program, offering further insights into Armenia’s cultural and natural heritage.
